Vara a blessing

Vara a blessing the Bhutanese film directed by  Khyentse Norbu was a visual and musical treat. The movie was like a visual painting which holds a sound of ethnic karnatic music. It was a like a beautiful garden on screen. The concept of Krishna and Radha is well indulged in this movie. It is a tale of forbidden love. The story line of the movie is ages old and was told many times but the visualization of the movie is in such a way that no one with a good aesthetic sense will took their eyes off from the screen, it was that serene. It is the tale of forbidden love between a dev dasi dancer girl and a low-caste sculptor. The movie conveys the idea, love is ever lasting. The movie also shows the Indian village culture and cast and tradition in early ages.
The story flows throw the major characters Laila the dev dasi girl who is a Krishna devotee and dedicated entire life for Lord Krishna, who is also a classical trained dancer and singer. Laila is in love with Syam the sculptor and backward cast young man. The son of the village chief is also in love with Laila. The movie shows the helpless and confused life of a dev dasi girl using the Krishna effect. That is the back bone of the movie in every sense.

The movie was so crisp and well trimmed there was no excess of shots or scenes which would have spoiled the beauty and rhythm of the entire movie. Laila was very much safe in the hands of Shahana Goswami. She did her part well. The portrayal of Indian cultural ages in ties with the Indian music dance and beautiful visuals made the movie a wonderful poem. This movie added a lot of colours and emotions in my mind.
