Coffin maker was my ever favourite Indian movie in
the 18th international film festival. It was such an excellent
movie. I am a great fan of Nazzruedin Shah and I was fully satisfied after
watching the movie. The Veena Bhakshi movie entertained almost every audience
despite of age and class. It was such a joy to watch the innocence of each and
every character in this movie. The movie was simple with lot of fun and logic.
Nazzruedin Shah just lived as the character. The theme story line, plot and the screen play was very
different and enticing.
The scent of magical realism adds more fragrance to the coffin maker, a sweet tale about an old man who came to know that he has only one month to live, who himself is a coffin maker. The beautiful backdrop of Goa makes the movie more pleasing and wonderful. The movie goes with the audience through a character called Allou who carries the tale all along till the end.
The movie tries to say the life is a beautiful thing and everyone should enjoy it at its fullest and love is such an important thing.

It was one of the Indian movies which got real
appreciation. The local English dialect used in the film keeps it more fresh
and full of humour even though there was less music. The amusing English and the
geographical backgrounds give a Caribbean relaxed feeling to the audience. Even
though it is filled with wit and humour at times the tale gets its wings of
emotion and heart touching situations which made the audience heart heavy. The
supporting roles of colourful but stereotyped villagers were so impressive
especially the lonely anxious widow. It was the first time in my life to
witness the whole theatre crowds gave a standing ovation to the director Veena
Bhakshi, it itself showed the quality of the movie. Even I managed to have her
autograph in the back of a cigarette packet(I didn't had any other slips with
me thou). It was the only movie I managed to watch twice and recommend to all
my friends and acquaintances. I was wondering that how come this movie was not
there in the competition category.
